Pumpkinspiration at Babesta

I needed some inspiration this year for carving our pumpkins (for the last 5 years, I have carved a cyclops pumpkin - if anyone has any insight as to what this means, please let me know). This year, I need to do something new - and as with anything, I went right to the experts to see the most fabulous pumpkins I could find. What I didn't know, is that at Babesta, we have a master pumpkin carver in our ranks (it wasn't on her resume, but I know it will be going forward!). Keep your eyes peeled for the Babesta pumpkins that will be carved by our own Jasmine (at Threads!). We will post it when it's done (and of course it'll be in our window), but in the meantime, get in the spirit with these orange lovlies I've scraped up from the corners of the world wide web.

Celebration Time, C'mon . . . Manhattan Youth's 25th Birthday

Time to Party! It’s Manhattan Youth’s 25 Year Anniversary. . .

That’s something to celebrate. They’ve given downtown families over two decades of afterschool programming and fun. If doing it for the cause wasn’t reason enough, how about chowing down some Bouley & dancing to something other than Miley Cyrus. Tickets are available here.

Aww! Penguin Sweaters!

It's been a while since i've knit somthing (since the lopsided scarf I made for my husband that was the subject of ridicule for many years) but I am feeling like I have to break out the knitting needles and yarn. Apparently, the Taurunga oil spill in New Zealand left Little Blue Penguins and other of the species at risk of freezing, and a NZ based yarn store sent out an international call to the people for Penguin Sweaters to help them through. Patterns and instructions cam be found on Skeinz.com. The good news is, by the time you're done with your masterpiece, if all of the penguins are outfitted, and your sweater proves superfluous (probably each penguin only gets one) your sleeveless garment will make a great gift for a future baby shower.

Being Elmo

I never thought I'd be saying this, but I'm strangly drawn to the new movie, opening tomorrow, called "Being Elmo." Although that chirpy voice is decidedly behind me and my kids cringe at the mention of his name (that's so bayyybeeish!), I'm curious to find out more about that man behind the phenomena. 

The film documents the journey of the puppeteer and creator, Kevin Clash, and has been acclaimed at a slew of film festivals including Sundance and SXSW. Playing at IFC in NYC starting tomorrow, Friday, October 21.

New at Babesta Cribz

We moved things around at Cribz, so that we had our Oeuf Classic Crib in the front for passersby to see. Many thought that we were just a stroller store, since the wheels were near the door, so we wanted to show that we’re the whole enchilada! From cribs & bedding to high chairs, bunk beds, play tables and more! Check out that skyline (painted with Crayola chalkboard paint!)
