Google's Doodle4Google "Wish for the World" Logo Contest

Doodle 4 Google is a pretty cool contest going on that I read about on Boing Boing!. Kids all around the US doodle new logos for Google, one of which will be chosen and featured for a day on Google's home page.  Voting is on til May 18. The theme: "What I wish for the world!" 

Current entries range from themes of peace, unity and green.  Pictured below: entry A Brighter Earth by Emma Hawkins; Nanotechnology in Space by Henry Jordan Shield;  Save The Animals by Jackie Tian and Gavin's Google Respect and Renwal by Gavin Riatt Hughes.

 

Going Green! Green Rooftops in NYC

As the spring weather settles in in New York, I keep thinking about the notion of a green roof. There are so many benefits to transforming building rooftops into grassy meadows perfect for play and relaxation.  It's energy efficient and good for the environment, beautiful and fun. You get your own slice of park at home. For your kids, that's priceless.

TONY Kids To Do List for Earth Day!

With Earth Day approaching fast TONY Kids have compiled yet another amazing list of things to do the week of-- Including great things to do at little to no cost such as free admission to the Museum of the City of New York, as well as free program at Prospect Park that teaches kids about Brooklyn’s only lake and lets them do some neat water experiments!

Toms Shoes at Babesta

Tom’s shoes have been sold at Babesta for some time now, the cute canvas shoe company promises to donate a pair of their shoes to a child in need for every pair that is bought, which is a cause we can all get behind! Having just recently purchased my very first pair of Toms in a cool special edition owl print (I am an avid collector of all things owl!, part of their collaboration with Element, I decided it was time to spread my enthusiasm via our blog! I have yet to wear another shoe in the almost 2 weeks since I received them, they are comfortable and give off a sort of confidence that says “Yeah, I’m cool and I support the cause!” Get a pair for yourself, then stop by Babesta and pick up a pair of Tiny Toms for your Tot! -Tiffany

This chicken rocking chair is irresistible, conceived of by Jaime Hayón Spanish artist-designer who has for years created amazing sculpture, furniture and large scale pieces. Maybe for chickens, it is easy being green! Brought to our attention via Design Sponge.

Power Hog, a good way to help your family Go Green.

This Power Hog, brought to our Attention by Core77, is a pretty awesome way of teaching kids about energy consumption. Plug your device into its nose and its tail in an outlet and feed it coins for every 30 minutes of use. It blinks red when time is running out. This was one offering in the Greener Gadgets Conference design competition, where designers were asked to craft innovative ways to make way for a greener lifestyle. 

If I hooked it to my TV and put myself to the task, I most certainly wouldn't have had the Bachelor Season Finale/After the Final Rose Ceremony on the other night. That wasn't worth a dime.
